What We Do at EmpowerLit
Fostering creativity, literacy, and belonging in every child!
Fostering creativity, literacy, and belonging in every child!
EmpowerLit brings inspiring author visits directly to schools. Through personal storytelling, interactive sessions, and creative workshops, we spark a love for reading and writing while encouraging students to explore their own voices.
Our workshops go beyond traditional literacy programs. Students engage in activities like writing their own stories, character development, and bookbinding projects, helping them build self-esteem and discover a sense of belonging through self-expression.
EmpowerLit focuses on underserved schools, ensuring budget constraints don’t prevent children from experiencing the transformative power of literacy programs. By working with schools and sponsors, we make sure every child has access to these impactful opportunities.
What Makes Our Visits Unique:
At EmpowerLit, our author visits are more than just presentations—they’re interactive, unforgettable experiences. Together, with students across all grade levels, we collaborate to write a book as a school.
Every student contributes—whether it’s creating a character, developing the story, or brainstorming twists and turns. The result is one epic story that brings their imaginations to life. Along the way, students learn:
Character and story development.
How to think creatively and explore multiple possibilities.
That there’s no wrong choice when you’re creating your own story.
This activity is always a fan favorite, inspiring students to work together, embrace creativity, and see the value of their contributions. We even produce the completed book to share with the school community!

Our Goals for 2025-2026
In March, we proudly visited 4 schools across South Carolina, sharing the message of belonging through You Really, Truly Do Belong!
We've connected with amazing students, educators, and communities—and we’re just getting started.
Visit 50 schools during the next school year to spread literacy, belonging, and confidence.
Donate 250 copies of You Really, Truly Do Belong! to literacy programs and students in need.
Host a 1-week summer literacy camp, offering kids a space to read, create, and build self-worth.
At EmpowerLit, we’re not just teaching literacy—we’re teaching confidence, creativity, and the skills to succeed. From writing a school-wide book to mentoring future authors and illustrators, we’re inspiring the next generation to believe in their abilities and dream big.
